Mid-January House Update
We've been busy in the new year, mostly on the inside of our house. Thankfully the porch and insulation have worked marvelously and we are very warm despite the bitter cold and snow we've had!
The porch is my favorite feature of the house. Having a porch as deep as it is (10 feet all the way around) means we can store materials for our inside projects outside the house. For example, we've been working through a pile of 24 sheets of drywall. Rather than have them sit inside we can keep them protected outside the house and Josh brings in what he needs, when he needs it.
The porch also lets us spend time outside without getting snowed or rained on. I love that! I am looking forward to years with Josh and JJ out there!
Our goal to get a floor down on the first floor of our house by JJ's six-month birthday might be a bit aggressive. But we are still making progress every day. Josh has taken over drywall duties (woohoo!) and is doing a great job mudding and taping joints between sheets of drywall. After the mud dries, I will coat with a special primer that serves as a Class III Vapor retarder - a key feature of the Building Science "Perfect Wall" concept - then two coats of latex paint. We are taking care to seal the walls everywhere, including the electrical outlets. This should make our house energy efficient in the summer as well as in the winter.
And on top of our house progress, JJ is progressing quickly into a mobile little human. He is rolling around, sitting up on his own, and starting to try solid food (mostly what we are eating). He definitely keeps us on our toes!
